How can a city that has not stopped being inhabited for over eleven thousand years be experienced in three days? The honest answer: it can't! But we can do something smarter — we can enter through the right gate, take our time, sit where its people sit, and let the city speak for itself. Because ancient Damascus is not an open museum as is often said in travel brochures, but rather a real living space: children playing among Roman columns, and a lady hanging laundry over a seven-hundred-year-old arch, while a fiery sunset bathes the scene in beauty!

Three days inside Syria does not exceed its area by a few kilometers, and with that, you will feel that you have traveled a lot: from the stones of the Hamidiyeh market to the silence of the Umayyad Mosque, and from the straight street mentioned in the Gospel to the alleys of Bab Touma and its cafes, and from the fortress of Damascus to the rooftop terrace sipping tea while the sunset lights one side after another. Old Damascus in 3 Days برنامجٌ يمشي أكثر مما يركب، ويجلس أكثر مما يتعجّل — وسيجعلك تفهم أخيراً لماذا قال عنها كل من زارها إنها “لا تُوصف”… ثم حاول وصفها على أي حال!

    Damascus ( Departure: 8:00 AM )

We start from where everyone begins — but in a different order! We enter from the Hamidiyeh market through its famous arch that lets the sun's rays penetrate like beams of light (yes, those beams are remnants of ancient plaster, and I will hear the whole story). Then the market suddenly opens onto the plate of the Umayyad Mosque, and we continue between Khan As'ad Pasha and the Great Palace and the Bzouriya market, to end the evening at the Nofra Café with the storytellers.

We walk along the Straight Street — the Roman road mentioned by name in the Gospel — from its west to its east, then we enter the Tuma gate with its cafes and churches, and we end up in the alleys of the Qameriya. And in the evening: a traditional Damascene bath for those who wish, or a rooftop for those who prefer to sit quietly.

It is enough to understand it well, not to exhaust it. The program is designed to cover the historical heart and main neighborhoods and major sites at a comfortable pace, with time left for tea and relaxation — both are essential parts of the experience here.

Between three and five hours distributed throughout the day, divided into short segments with frequent breaks in cafés and restaurants. The distances themselves are short, but the surfaces are uneven.

Yes, it is one of the most suitable programs for families as the distances are short and the attractions are diverse (markets, sweets, parks, stories). You can ease the second walking day or divide it according to the children's ages.

Spring and autumn are the best months. Winter is very beautiful in the cafes and the heated houses, and summer can be enjoyable with adjustments to early morning and evening outings.

Yes, it can be easily combined with the Rif Damascus program and Ma'loula, or with the adventure of the Badiyah and Tadmor, or as an extension to a coastal or northern program.
