That thing is called Tadmur. The city of Palmyra emerged from the heart of the desert because a lady named Zenobia dared to challenge Rome — yes, Rome itself! Stroll along the Colonnade Street at sunset, where the golden stone glows, and one of them illuminated the city from within. Then ascend to the citadel to witness the sun setting behind the sea of palm trees, and in the evening, sit on a mat in the Bedouin tent, with tea on the fire, and the stars above you will make you silent in awe. The Adventure of Syrian Heritage Three days of harsh beauty: a date from the heavy era, and the desert does not forgive, and the nights will not resemble any night you have experienced before.

Tadmur and the desert ( Departure: 8:00 AM )

An early start — yes, an early start indeed, and there's a good reason for it! We first ascend to the Qalamoun mountains where Deir Mar Musa the Syrian monastery is perched on a rocky cliff for over a thousand years, then we head east and the civilization gradually recedes from the car window: fewer trees, fewer houses, then nothing. We reach Tadmur just before sunset, and this timing is absolutely perfect: the first encounter with the columns should be in golden light.

Main Day, and the Most Abundant. We start from the Bel Temple and the Columns of the Triumph and the Theater, then we pass by the Valley of the Tombs where the Palmyrenes were buried in high stone towers (because even death here needs a view!). After a break at the Palmyra Oasis, we ascend to the Fortress of Fakhreddin to witness the sunset panorama over the city and the oasis. And when the darkness falls... we leave the asphalt completely towards the Bedouin camp.

Who wakes up at five in the morning? You, after seeing the first light creeping over the plain! Morning in the desert with bitter coffee and riding the camels, then we head west across the shimmering salt lake to the Western Castle of Qasr al-Hayr, one of the Umayyad castles built in a region that no one understands even today. In the evening, we return to Damascus — with a dusty memory, and a full stomach.

Frequently Asked Questions

The camp is equipped with tents, mattresses, and basic clean facilities, but it remains a simple desert experience, not a hotel. Those who prefer complete comfort can replace the second night with accommodation in Tadmor with full amenities instead of the camp.

Moderate. It includes a climb to Deir Mar Musa and a walk among the ruins of Palmyra, but without a difficult ascent. Riding camels is entirely optional, as is the climb to the fortress.

Spring (March – May) and autumn (October – November) are the best months. Winter can be special, but it is quite cold at night. Summer is not recommended due to the extreme heat during the day.

Weak to nonexistent in the surrounding area — and that's part of the experience! Coverage is available within Palmyra and along the main road.

Yes, an additional day can be added for a visit to the Eastern Palace or combined with the Damascus program, and it can be turned into a private trip for a closed group by modifying the itinerary and accommodation.
